The Power of Discomfort

"It doesn't have to be fun to be fun." Mark Twight

Resilience is a powerful skill. Unfortunately, we exist in a culture of comfort. Everything is made softer, easier, gentler, warmer, cooler, faster, slower, and accessible. We quit too soon. We don't like uncomfortable situations; stillness, the cold, drowning in BJJ. Strengthening the mind lies in discomfort. Without resilience, I feel, we can't explore our potential.

Iron Cowboy: The Story of the 50.50.50 reminded me of the last post about Zen Mind, Beginners Mind. I'm not condoning running 50 Iron Man distances, nor becoming specialized in endurance. What I am condoning is developing an iron will. Notice the story, at the end of the film, about sitting on a ferris wheel for 10 days.
